Katt Williams has sparked a huge debate and domino effect among the entertainment industry as he had made some shocking comments about his peers that didn’t quite sit well with them. Briefly in his interview, he spoke of his time being on the film Friday After Next where he shared that he had to intervene and change the scene where his character Money Mike was almost raped.
“The truth of the matter is, Money Mike in the original script gets raped in the bathroom. Katt Williams had to take the risk in front of the studios, and the cast, and the powers that be — in his very first movie — and say respectfully, humbly, ‘Guys, if we’re talking about anything else I have no credibility and I have no pull, but we’re talking about comedy, where I have all the credibility and all the pull. The problem with ‘Friday After Next’ is we’re trying to make a classic comedy, and this comedy involves a rape, and rape is never funny no matter who it happens to or what the circumstances are.’” Williams says.
Ice Cube has responded to Williams and had taken to social media to sound back of the Club Shay Shay interview.
“It’s been over 20 years since the movie came out, and people have different perspectives. I would never shoot a rape scene in a movie, especially Friday, where you actually see this happening on camera. That ain’t my style,” he expressed. “The plier joke was always in the script. We would never, ever show that. That’s not my style if you look at any of my movies. So, that was never a discussion.”
He then shared that there was a little error in what Williams said of the scene.
“At that point in everybody’s career, we will listen to a certain extent, but we wasn’t gonna change the movie for it. For any actor, you know? We do what we feel and if it was a rape scene, it would have been in the movie. There was no reason not to shoot it. But that’s not my style.”
Cube also clarified Katt Williams statement regarding writing the character.
“The role was written, but he enhanced it. Which is why Katt was so dope in the movie. Money Mike had a small role, about as big as the Santa Clause role, but when we started the filming , he was giving much magic, that we kept expanding the role, and giving him more to do because he was on point.”
In regards to paying everyone, he shared that Friday has a lot to do with the actor’s careers and where they are now.
“If any actor is mad about what they got paid, then look at what you were doing, look at where your career was at the time, and where it is now, and I believe Friday has something to do with that.”
