It looks like the popular app TikTok may be coming to an end as the senate has officially passed the bill that will remove the social media app from American app stores. This comes after the votes were set in with 79 in favor and 18 opposed.
Just previously in March, The newer version gives ByteDance 270 days to divest, or sell the company over to American company or it will be banned from the US app store. TikTok has released a statement stating that it intends to challenge the bill in court once Biden signs it.
The reasoning behind the desire for lawmakers to ban TikTok were over concerns over data being shared with China’s government along with safety issues. As of now, the timeframe of TikTok’s possible ban is 9 months.
