Ariana Grande has just released her latest album titled Eternal Sunshine that dons singles such as “yes, and?” and particularly “The Boy Is Mine.” Grande recently sat with Zane Lowe with Apple Music where she broke down the meaning behind the song.
“It’s kind of like, okay, ‘I’ll play the bad girl, here’s your bad girl anthem.’ I’ve always wanted to reimagine that song in some kind of way.” She says of being inspired by the 1998 song by Brandy and Monica.
She continued, “I kind of was like, ‘This is a very bad idea, I think, but there is a large group of my fans that really, they do love a bad girl anthem,’ and this is kind of an elevated version of that.”
While during the interview, she didn’t dive into any of the rumors of her and her new boyfriend Ethan Slater, she shared her frustration of fans and social media “misunderstanding people she loves.”
“Is a inexplicable, hellish feeling with watching people misunderstand the people you love, and you, and anything. Pieces of it touch on things that are real and then pieces of it are also just, like, part of the concept,” she said. “So what is that separation? And it’s so scary to leave it up to these selective memory people to decipher. It’s scary. But I digress. It’s too late. The vinyls have been printed.”
Brandy and Monica has yet to respond or mention anything of the record.
