DJ Casper, real name Willie Perry Jr, known for making the iconic dance song, “Cha Cha Slide,” has died at age 58 due to his long battle with cancer. Back in 2019, the DJ spoke of the history behind the song where he detailed that he wrote the song for his nephew who worked as a personal trainer at Bally’s Total Fitness gym at the time.
“When I first did it, I did it as an aerobic exercise for my nephew at Bally’s. From there, it just took off. Elroy Smith from WGCI grabbed ahold of it.” Perry had previously said to ABC Chicago.
After the song had been released, many people began requesting it to play at events and parties and instantly became a fan favorite since the 2000’s. Our thoughts and prayers are with Perry’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
